New ventures are traditionally idea rich, but asset poor. This means that venture debt and traditional equity financing can be far more expensive than it needs to be – more so than you might expect. In this regard, IP and data rights are generally a checkbox that play little to no role in reducing financial risk and lowering the cost of capital.
